what's TOKU

Traditional Japanese architecture follows a concept of "circular architecture"- it can be disassembled and reused.

Japanese traditional architecture is built by assembling wooden components without using nails and metal fittings through unique techniques called “kigumi”. Therefore, it is possible to disassemble the components, move them to another location, and reassemble. This project aims to regain the perspective of "circular architecture" and through "Toku(taking apart)" conduct relocation, renovation, and utilization as materials, transforming vacant houses, a social issue, into local resources.
